To Melissa, Abby, Brett, Morgan, Mumm Family, Scott Family, and MFD:

For most of my grade school years I went to school with Melissa and rode the bus with Scott. Scott was always one of the \"nice guys\". We all knew when they started dating that these two would end up married with a family. Melissa and I see each other passing on our way taking the kids to and from school, chapperoning them on field trips or just out running erronds. Unfortunately we don\'t usually have time to talk much. But, it\'s always nice to see them even if it is a quick \"Hi, How\'s it going?\"
I can\'t even begin to imagine the pain you feel. Please know that every one of you are in our thoughts and prayers. If there is ANYTHING that we can do to help remember we are just around the corner. Quentin and Quinci send their best wishes to little Abby who rode their bus and attended the same preschool the last 2 years.
To the MFD you guys are a great bunch of men and women who are often taken for granted. Thank you for all you do and may God bless you all in this difficult time.
God Bless

Rani, Quentin, Kelsie, Brodie, Olivia, Vanessa, Quentin, and Quinci

I am shock of the past week events. I have known Scott since before I can remember. Our parents would tell us stories of getting into trouble as toddlers. Scott was a great friend that was part of the Troy Grove gang. I will never forget the summer pool parties and bonfires. Scott was an amazing friend and always there when you needed him. My thoughts go out to Melissa and kids. I admire your strength and courage through everything. You are in my heart and prayers. Allen, Patti, Greg and Nick my heart and prayers are with you. Troy Grove and Mendota has lost a wonderful friend. God Bless his family!

My greatest memories of Scott were our days playing football at MHS. Scott could hit like a freight train and was dubbed the \"Heat Seeking Missle\" by a local newspaper. (Boy did we have fun with that one.)
When I began my career at the Police Department, Scott was already a fireman. Whenever there was a call for help, Scott did answer that call. Scott showed the same leadership and teamwork he showed during those years on the gridiron.
Scott was such an amazing person and was well liked by many. I was blessed to have known him, blessed to have worked with him on many calls, and blessed to be part of the many who said goodbye.

I didn\'t Know Scott personally. But I do have the utmost respect for the man. There are not enough of us who are willing to do what he did for his community, and accept what might be the ultimate consequence. Scott, you were a mans man.Melissa and kids, my deepest condolences. At the same time, you were right there with a great man...savor that.
I happened to be at the right place at the right time yesterday and was able to witness the procession of fire fighting vehicles of the many fire fighting companies of northern illinios in the parade. It was more than impressive. Dennis and all involved, I just have a hard time telling you just how impressed I was when I watched what was unfolding in front of me. Congratulations on what all the fire departments put together.

I\'VE KNOWN SCOTT FOR 15 YEARS, WORKING WITH HIM AT DONNELLEYS AND BEING A FELLOW FIREFIGHTER, AND HE WAS MUCH MORE THAN A COLLEAGUE, HE WAS A GOOD FRIEND. I\'LL NEVER FORGET ALL THE TROJAN FOOTBALL GAMES WE WENT TO, ESPECIALLY WHEN HIS BROTHER NICK PLAYED, WE HAD SO MUCH FUN . THERE WERE TIMES WE WERE LUCKY WE DIDN\'T GET KICKED OUT, WE LOVED TO GIVE THE REFS AN EAR FULL. WE WOULD LAUGH ABOUT HOW WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO TALK FOR DAYS.I KNOW WHERE SCOTT GOT HIS KINDNESS FROM, HIS PARENTS WOULD BE AT THE GAMES AND THEY ALWAYS MADE ME FEEL LIKE PART OF THE FAMILY, LIKE SCOTT ALWAYS DID.I ALWAYS WISHED MY DAD WAS AS COOL AS AL WAS AND HIS MOM IS AWSOME LADY ALSO, THANK YOU BOTH. TO HIS FAMILY, MELISSA I CAN\'T EVEN IMAGINE THE PAIN YOUR GOING THROUGH BUT KNOW THIS, WHEN WE SAY WE WILL ALWAYS BE THERE FOR YOU WE MEAN IT. AND TO ABBY, BRETT AND MORGAN, YOU KIDS ARE THE NICEST SWEETEST KIDS I\'VE EVER MET, THAT IS THANKS TO YOUR WONDERFUL PARENTS. AND I WANT YOU KIDS TO KNOW YOUR DAD NEVER STOPPED TALKING ABOUT HOW MUCH HE LOVED YOU GUYS, KNOW THAT HE WILL ALWAYS WATCH OVER YOU AND PROTECT YOU I KNOW THIS IN MY HEART.I\'M A MUCH BETTER PERSON FOR HAVING THE PLEASURE OF CALLING SCOTT MY FRIEND AND I WILL MISS HIM DEARLY. IF THERE\'S A BIG LAKE IN HEAVEN, I KNOW SCOTT WILL CATCH THE BIGGEST FISH EVER. GOD BLESS YOU BIG GUY AND GOD BLESS THE ENTIRE MUMM FAMILY.

Being a new in-law member of the Mumm family, I had the pleasure of meeting Scott only once. However, from that all to brief couple of days, I knew him to be a kind, caring and humorous man. It was obvious that Scott loved his family dearly and held his friends close.
From accounts given of the wake and funeral, I know that Scott has touched many, many lives and was loved and respected by all who knew him. Scott is and will be missed by his family, friends and brother fire fighters. I will always feel that I have missed something precious by knowing Scott only a short time.
Although we have lost a wonderful person here on earth, we know Scott continues to perform his heavenly duty and watches over all his family from above, and we will see him again one day. My heartfelt sympathy to Melissa and kids; as well as, the Scott family, the Mumm family, and his brother firefighters.

Please accept my deepest sympathies at the time of your loss. Noone can ever imagine losing someone so young. I did not know Scott personally, but he was obviously an important, respected and popular member of a department for which I have a great deal of respect. There is some comfort in knowing that when MFD responded, everything that could be done, was done, as always. (I know this from personal experience, thanks again Eric). If there is anything I can do for the family or department, let me know. Brother Mumm will be missed by all who knew him and all he served. May he rest in peace.

My prayers and deepest sympathies to Scott\'s family, the Kennys, friends & loved ones. I knew Scott from the \'streets of Troy Grove.’ Scott was the ‘older boy’, who kept the younger boys in line and looked out for my sisters & I when we got picked on by the boys. (my Mom said we could play outside after dark if Scott was around). May God grant peace & faith to so many who will miss you. And –please, Scott, still keep a watch out for us girls :-) Smiles forever to you - Veronica, Leah, Maria, Rachel & Raeanna Neubauer

Scott was a wonderful person. He was alway smiling and usually had something to say. Everytime I heard \"Come on Tolley, what are you doing?\" I knew Scott was there. He would call you a \"Probie\" but in the same breath take the time to teach you and make sure you understood what you were supposed to do. I have only been on the department for a little while, but I know that I am a better Firefighter and EMT because I worked with Scott. One of the last things Scott and I did together is the Smoke House. I still remember thinking that he is a wonderful teacher because he took the time to explain to the kids why they need to do the things we are telling them. No matter how young or old, Scott will live on in all of us because of the lessons we learned from him. Hopefully I can become as great of a person as he was. Melissa and family, if you need anything at all, remember your family at MFD. God bless

As a former member of the Mendota Fire Department, I never served with Scott, however I did have the oportunity to met him and get to know him through Dean. I AM FREE

Don\'t grieve for me, for now I\'m free
I\'m following the path God laid for me
I took His hand when I heard Him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day, to laugh,
to love, to work or play.
Tasks undone must stay that way
I\'ve found that peace at the close of the day.

If parting has left a void, then fill it
with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah, yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life\'s been full, I savored much
Good friends, good times,
a loved one\'s touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all to brief,
Don\'t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me,
God wants me now, He set me free.

11/01/2007 by Coach Wasmer
Scott was a great High School Football player for the Trojans. As an inside linebacker in our 4-4 defense, we did a lot of stunting - Scott was one of the main components of a defense in 1990 that was outstanding. As I recall, the sports columnist from the LaSalle News Tribune at the time, David Elsesser, referred to him and his play as \"a heat-seeking missile\". He did a great job. I remember it well, when we \"hit the (blocking)sled\" every practice - Scott was in the front row setting a great example, rockin\' it.
More importantly, what a fine young man to know and coach - always a smile, always very positive. I can speak for all of us on that coaching staff, I believe, in saying thank you for making our coaching experience a very rewarding one, Scott. I\'ll miss you, but your memory will be forever with me.

There is nothing I can do,
to make him come back
There are no words I can say,
that can replace the words you long to hear

There are no answer\'s I can give,
that will satisfy your questions
There is not another soul I can introduce you to that will ever replace his and, there is no love I can offer that will ever replace the love you shared

I can not promise your broken heart will ever be complete
I will not say it could have been worse
I will not deny it was a tragedy
I will not lie and tell you he will come back

He never really left

I do promise he hears you when you speak
I will say he loves you no matter the distance
I will not deny he is in a better place
and, I will not lie; he is waiting to greet you someday
He is every step you take
He is in everything you do
He is the air you breathe
He is every beat of your heart
\"He is like the wind. You can not see him...but you will always feel him\"

Melissa & family we are here for you and always always will be.

Lisa

Nothing we can say or do will fill the void made by this loss. Comfort comes knowing God placed him in the way of others tragedy so that he could make a difference in their lives as he did yours.

Melissa and kids, I want you to know that I am(and most of my youth ministry are) praying for comfort for you and your family. I am sorry for you loss and could not begin to imagine what you are going through, but anytime you need anything let me know, it wasn\'t to long ago that I used to babysit the kids. God Bless you and give you comfort in this time of sorrow!

Mummer, Melissa, & Family...
Scott, in the few years I\'ve been on the department you always made me feel like a \"Brother\". You were there to push me along and wake me up on those 3 a.m. calls we all love, you were there sitting right behind me on the 2\'1/2 in below freezing weather at the big house fire in Earlville coaching me on what to do in-between scraping ice from our gear and goggles...and you were there whenever anyone else in the community needed your help. You were a great mentor, a good friend, and a family man we can all look up to. Mummer it\'s not gonna be the same looking down to my left and not seeing you there...Melissa, Kids, & Family you all are in our prayers...

My heart goes out to scott\'s family and the Fire Department. When I was a Junior FireFighter I remember spending the days when I didnt have school at the Mendota Fire Station and I learned a lot from Scott. He taught me how the Fire Department is one big family and that whatever I do in life to make sure that he comes from my heart. Scott will be missed a whole lot and sometimes I dont understand why god lets these things happen but he did call a great person home.

Scott and I grew up on the same block in Troy Grove - he was my first friend. I have wonderful memories of those early years, and while we didn\'t see each other as often in more recent years, we still took the opportunity to catch up when we were both visiting our parents in TG. Scott epitomized the character and values which make living in smaller communities such a rewarding experience. Small communities offer us the opportunity to really know a neighbor and Scott was such an incredible person to know. Mendota and TG are far better communities because of Scott\'s many contributions. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Melissa, their children, Patti, Allen, Greg, Nick and the extended family and friends.

Scott to me you were a fellow co-worker, a brother firefighter, but above that you were a friend. I\'m sitting here trying to figure out why things like this happen, and the only reason I can think of is the Good Lord is trying to cut down on the number of people who harass me about my IV stats.....It takes something tragic like this for people to realize how fragile life is and how quick it can change, and how much of an impact that change has on alot of people. Each of us at the department have our own memories of you, and those memories will be cherished for a lifetime. God speed my friend..............

I\'ve known Scott for most of my life. He was an outstanding person who would do anything for anyone at anytime. He became an even better person when he became a husband and a father. The years we spent together playing sports in high school were always fond memories for me....but even more so now. After graduating high school our paths didn\'t cross as often as they had in the past...regardless, when we did see one another it was as if no time had passed at all. I spoke with him recently at the fire station during the Sweet Corn Festival and as always I walked away telling my wife what a great guy he was; noting that he was one \"hell\" of a football player and the guy on our varsity baseball team whose game winning home run put us into the Regional Championship game...where he later broke his thumb. I can only hope that my children grow up to be as good of people as Scott. My heart and prayers go out to Melissa, his three children and his entire family. His family and the entire Mendota community has suffered an enormous loss.

I can say that I have had the great privilege and opportunity to work with a great person, a dedicated family man and a very proud member of the Mendota Fire Department. Scott was one of those people that would do anything for anyone and go above and beyond his duty. It is hard enough to lose someone when you expect it but when it is not expected it is even harder. My thoughts and prayers go out to Scotts wife and his children and his \"MFD\" family. He will never be forgotten and will be remembered as a true \"Hero\". Thanks Scott!

Mummer,

What can I say? You came on the department just a year after me and we hit it off immediately. I remember before meeting you hearing Dean Ege say \"this is a good kid coming here!\" How right he was. We hit it off immediately and you \"were in\" we all would say. Before I knew it you were walking, talking, eating and sleeping Fire Service and turned out to be one of the best. I\'ll never ever forget the good times we had away from the department either. The time a large group of us went over to the Prime Quarter and we were all through eating when you finally showed up from the grill because Melissa wanted hers burnt like \"leather\". So to get her back you told the waitresses it was her birthday which was why we all were there and they came out bangin on the tamberee and singing happy birthday and gave melissa a little cupcake with a candle. Or out at \"Eisenstock\" and we couldnt get the fire going because of the rain so we \"rigged\" a hose up to the grill gas tank and um......lets just say we got the fire going. The back yard get togethers, Simpson\'s poker parties, New Years eve up at the 5th alarm, the hayrack rides. I\'ll miss you Scott and We all promise to take care of Melissa and the kids. Your Friend,
Lonny (zo)
